Fuji is one of those characters who just ignore what the author meant them to be and grow into their own thing. He was intended as an old mentor type with a hint of sarcasm, but he decided to be a sassy observer with a really well-hidden heart of gold. The funny thing is, strip #411 is gonna prove that change very appropriate.
